Client overview
Our client is a leading German system house with decades of experience in Integrated Logistic Support (ILS), technical documentation, and software development.
Serving prominent organizations across defense, railway infrastructure, medical devices, optics, sensor technology, and complex engineering, the client has built its reputation on delivering reliability in highly regulated industries.
Our collaboration began in December 2023, following a referral from a technology leader within the client’s organization. Initially, Brightgrove was invited to improve code quality and development practices for the client’s documentation platform. However, as trust deepened, the engagement quickly expanded into a full-scale digital transformation.

Our technical innovation
Our technical innovation
Architecture & Tech Stack Modernization
One of the most important milestones of the project was the modernization of the client’s platform architecture. The legacy monolithic system was gradually transformed into a microservices-based model, ensuring greater scalability and flexibility without disrupting daily operations. Throughout this transition, business continuity was the top priority. Essential documentation systems remained available 100% of the time, and the migration was executed in phases to minimize operational impact.
Existing workflows and user access patterns were preserved, historical data and document relationships were protected, and uninterrupted access to mission-critical documentation was maintained. To achieve this, the team relied on a carefully planned implementation strategy. Migration from the legacy system was carried out using parallel processing, supported by robust validation protocols to safeguard data integrity.
Critical system components were backed up with fallback mechanisms, backward compatibility was maintained for integrations, and user acceptance testing was conducted at every phase. This careful approach allowed the system to be modernized without compromising compliance or security standards for sensitive documentation.

Alongside the architectural shift, the technology stack was significantly upgraded. We used:
• NESTJS for backend services
• Prometheus for system monitoring
• Terraform for infrastructure management
• Graylog for centralized logging
• GRAFANA for metrics visualization
• PostgreSQL with optimized data structures
• KEYCLOAK for centralized authentication and authorization

On the technical side, the legacy codebase was successfully refactored according to SOLID principles, which greatly improved maintainability. The move to a modular, microservices-based architecture made the system more scalable and flexible, while RESTful APIs enabled a more service-oriented approach.

Process improvements were equally significant. Weekly meeting times were reduced by half — dropping from 8.5 to 4.25 hours — freeing up more time for development and collaboration. Release management became more predictable and effective, and development cycles accelerated. Teams communicated more efficiently, which improved both alignment and delivery speed.

The modernized platform is now a foundation for ongoing innovation. With plans to complete the microservices migration, enhance AI-driven documentation processing, and expand mobile-first capabilities, the client is well-positioned to lead in highly regulated industries.
We also plan to implement advanced search and indexing capabilities and enhanced document validation and verification systems. This will be part of the efforts to improve collaboration features for technical documentation teams. Another future milestone for the client is becoming ISO-27001 compliant.
Our partnership continues to deliver value through technical excellence, security-conscious innovation, and close collaboration. This project stands as a blueprint for digital transformation in regulated environments — proving that even the most complex, security-critical systems can be modernized without compromise.
